    Personal Development, Wellbeing and Enrichment

Broadening Horizons, Building Confidence, Creating Opportunities

We are committed to developing the whole child. We believe that education is about far more than academic success; it is about helping children grow into confident, responsible, resilient and respectful individuals who are well prepared for the next stage of their education and future life.

Personal Development and Enrichment  is carefully considered to ensure that every child feels valued, included and inspired. Through a wide range of experiences, opportunities and relationships, we help pupils develop their character, wellbeing, aspirations and understanding of the world around them.

    Our Vision

    We want every child to:

    • Feel safe, happy and valued as a member of our Cordwalles family.
    • Develop confidence and resilience.
    • Build positive relationships and a strong sense of belonging.
    • Understand and respect diversity and difference.
    • Become active and responsible citizens.
    • Discover their talents and interests.
    • Access opportunities that broaden their horizons.
    • Leave Cordwalles prepared for the next stage of their education and beyond.

    Enrichment Opportunities

We are proud to offer a rich and varied programme of opportunities that enhance learning and support personal growth.

Throughout their time at Cordwalles, pupils can access a wide range of experiences including:

    • Music tuition, choir and performance opportunities.
    • Rocksteady and Young Voices.
    • Sports clubs, competitions and leadership opportunities.
    • Educational visits and residential experiences.
    • STEM and careers-related activities.
    • Cultural celebrations and themed events.
    • Pupil leadership roles, including Head Pupils, Prefects, Pupil Parliament and Sports Leaders.
    • Community projects and charitable initiatives.
    • Workshops and visits from external organisations and professionals.

These opportunities help children develop confidence, teamwork, leadership, creativity, independence and aspiration whilst creating lasting memories and experiences.

    Inclusion and Equity

We believe that every child should have access to the same opportunities, regardless of their background or circumstances.

We work hard to identify and remove barriers that may prevent children from participating in enrichment activities and wider school life. Through careful planning, targeted support and financial assistance where appropriate, we ensure that disadvantaged pupils, pupils with SEND, young carers and other vulnerable groups can fully engage in the opportunities available.

Through our valued partnership with the GLF Foundation, we are able to access funding that enriches school life, removes barriers to participation and enables more children to benefit from high-quality experiences that build confidence, broaden horizons and raise aspirations.

Our aim is not simply to offer opportunities, but to ensure that every child can benefit from them.

    Wellbeing and Belonging

Strong relationships are at the heart of everything we do.

We know that children thrive when they feel safe, supported and connected. Through our pastoral support, wellbeing initiatives, pupil voice opportunities and caring school culture, we help children develop positive mental health, emotional resilience and a strong sense of belonging.

We encourage children to take pride in themselves, celebrate their achievements and recognise the value they bring to our school community.

    Preparing Children for the Future

Personal Development at Cordwalles helps pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to succeed in modern Britain and beyond.

Through our curriculum and enrichment opportunities, children learn about:

    • Respect, kindness and responsibility.
    • Diversity, equality and inclusion.
    • Healthy relationships and wellbeing.
    • Democracy and British Values.
    • Online and personal safety.
    • Environmental and global issues.
    • Leadership and community involvement.
    • Future aspirations and careers.

By combining academic learning with meaningful life experiences, we ensure that pupils leave Cordwalles as confident, capable and compassionate young people who are ready for their next steps.

    Our Commitment

At Cordwalles Junior School, every child matters. We are committed to ensuring that every pupil feels they belong, every pupil has access to enriching opportunities and every pupil leaves us with the confidence, experiences and aspirations needed to flourish in the future.
