Homework

At Cordwalles, we recognise the importance of balancing children's learning, family time, extracurricular activities and wellbeing. From September onwards, we will be moving away from compulsory homework and instead offering a range of optional home learning opportunities that we strongly recommend to support your child's progress.

Research consistently shows that regular reading and practice of key skills both in school, and at home, can have a significant impact on children's achievement. Therefore, we encourage families to prioritise the following:

Reading

We strongly recommend that all children read at least four times each week, either independently or with an adult. Reading together remains one of the most effective ways to develop vocabulary, comprehension and a lifelong love of books. Children who are currently receiving phonics support in school must continue to read daily, as regular practice is essential for developing fluency and confidence.

Times Table Rockstars

Regular practice on Times Table Rockstars helps children develop rapid recall of multiplication facts, which supports learning across many areas of mathematics.

Grammarsaurus Morphs

Children can also practise their spelling and vocabulary knowledge through the Grammarsaurus Morphs game. Regular engagement helps reinforce key spelling patterns and word meanings.

Half-Termly Enrichment Challenges

For children who would like to take their learning further, we will continue to provide optional half-termly enrichment challenges. These activities are linked to our interdisciplinary GLF Wider Curriculum and designed to encourage creativity, curiosity and wider curriculum learning, allowing children to explore topics in greater depth.

Staying Connected

We will continue to use ClassDojo to share classroom learning, celebrate achievements and communicate important announcements. Optional home learning activities and enrichment challenges will also be shared through ClassDojo.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to working in partnership with you to help every child develop confidence, curiosity and a love of learning.
